Fair Work Education

After four years of campaigning and months of debate in Federal Parliament, a new set of fairer IR laws was signed into law on April 7, 2009.

The Fair Work Act is the new set of national industrial relations laws which have replaced WorkChoices on July 1 2009.

It is crucial that you understand the new system and how it applies to your workplace.

With support from the Commonwealth Government the ACTU Organising, Education and Campaign Centre and its affiliates will provide information and education on the Fair Work Act to assist workers understand the new workplace relations system.  

The delivery of the education and information program is diverse and ranges from public meetings in country towns to lunch time meetings in factory lunch rooms to an online course for workers to complete at home. 

The audience that the ACTU and its affiliates are able to reach is vast and covers all types of worker: full-time, part-time, casual and contract.  It will cover all regions from information sessions in Hobart and Broken Hill to training sessions in Perth and Alice Springs; and it will cover all occupations and industries from miners in outback Queensland to nurses in Whyalla and truck drivers on interstate highways.


Online Education Program
The Online Education course offers participants an overview of the new industrial relations system brought in by the Fair Work Act 2009.  The Online Education Program is available to all members of the public. It’s free and allows you to work at your own pace.  Simply register with the site and click on the course title to enrol.
