The Organising Centre has redeveloped the Union Management course following the review of the Centre and its work. The Union Management program will continue to provide leaders with an opportunity to share experiences, engage with and learn from key industrial and social leaders and academics in a reflective, educational environment.
The course is a three week residential program, spread over 8 months.
Who is it for?
This course is designed for union leaders who have responsibility for the management of their union at federal or state level. If your union is going through a change process it will be beneficial for two or more leaders to attend the same program.
Aims
To motivate union leaders to take the necessary steps to develop unions that will improve the working lives of Australians and to lead with union principles and values.
To develop strategic plans to build the capacity of the union.
To give union leaders the analytical, financial, managerial and communication knowledge and tools needed to lead their unions.
To establish our place in the community and political landscape.
To have a global view of our economic, social and cultural circumstances
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Recognise the importance of leadership and plan to develop their leadership practice.
Develop a branch/national/division strategic plan to align the organising work of the union.
Understand the importance of industry planning and research and apply the principles to target selection of priority organising and campaigning.
Develop comprehensive campaigns that place the union movement in the community.
Work with and support lead organisers (or whoever is responsible for driving the organising work in the union) to develop organisers.
Critically analyse delegate development to ensure integration with organising plans.
Apply the learning from local and international case studies.
Approach the media with greater skill and confidence
Develop a budget and secure subscription income.
Critically analyse existing union structures and processes and identify opportunities for development.
