Who is it for?
This course is for existing union trainers who have responsibility for design and delivery, and who wish to know more about adult education theory and practice. It may also appeal to lead organisers who have a substantial training and development role.
Aims
- To understand the contribution that radical adult education has made to union education
- To find out about current ideas on learning in the workplace
- To practice the skills involved in curriculum development, based on participatory education
- To understand what is involved in successfully managing training opportunities in the training room and the workplace
Learning outcomes
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the links between progressive adult education and union education.
- Practice training sessions that use active learning techniques and get to know a number of different techniques that vary the learning experience for participants.
- Understand the elements of program design.
- Identify what informal learning opportunities arise for organisers and delegates and plan how to make the most of these opportunities.
- Improve the management of education opportunities both in the training room and through informal education opportunities.
