Howe Inquiry swamped with stories and submissions about insecure work
More than 500 workers, unions, community and other representative groups have lodged a submission with the Independent Inquiry into Insecure Work in Australia. Submissions are available for download at
securejobs.org.au
The inquiry, chaired by former Deputy Prime Minister Brian Howe, will conduct hearings around Australia in February and March.
Equal pay justice for social and community sector workers
The ruling by the full bench of Fair Work Australia on pay equity for social and community sector workers is a landmark in the fight for equal pay for women. The decision ends decades of undervaluation of the work of women in the sector.
Unions committed to better jobs for Indigenous Australians
A new partnership between unions and the Jack Thompson Foundation will aim to deliver better outcomes for Indigenous Australians through new skills and job training opportunities. The alliance will empower indigenous Australians and their communities, through a strengthened skills base within local communities.
ACTU Congress 15 – 17 May 2012
Plans are now underway for the 2012 ACTU Congress. The event will be held at the Sydney Convention Centre, and will encompass industrial policies, social/economic policies; campaigning and organising for growth.
