These long hours or hours that are unreasonable include very
long hours, changes in time zones, irregular shift work, unpredictable hours, or
combinations of these. The study includes individuals and, in almost two-thirds
of cases, their partners. It suggests that the majority of employees and their
families are negatively affected by unreasonable hours, and that the individuals
who work long hours, or unpredictable long hours and shifts, suffer serious
effects from such hours.
