Who is it for?
This course is aimed at experienced union representatives or activists, who have shown leadership potential and who have been active in union campaigns. It is ideal for union representatives who are involved in organising outside the workplace.
Aims
To introduce participants to the basic concepts of organising and campaigning. To learn the skills associated with making people active in the workplace and the community. To learn from experienced union reps in other unions and workplaces. Learning outcomes
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand our union history;
- Plan an organising campaign;
- See what is involved in moving people to join and become active in the union;
- Develop a workplace organising committee;
- Understand the industrial framework unions operate in;
- Understand basic negotiation principles and practice putting these into action;
- Identify what is involved in running a campaign.
Duration
The Workplace Union Leaders course is scheduled in two stages, with three initial days of training followed by two further days (excluding SA which is run in a 5 day block)
