TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment - Blended Program

This course is funded and supported by The Union Education Foundation (TUEF), an education trust of the ACTU, which works in partnership with the Organising Centre to deliver accredited qualifications.

Who is it for?

This course is targeted to Union Educators working within unions or those planning to be involved in educating reps, activists and union officials. Typically these trainers are responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating and assessing individual and group workplace-based learning programs. Participants are also often Union Organisers involved in developing union delegates and workplace activists or those whose role includes being the workplace Mentor / Supervisor for trainees enrolled in the Organising Works program. They are keen to formalise their competence through gaining an accredited qualification.

Aims
  • Enhance the training and facilitation skills of union educators, including the planning and implementation of effective learning activities.
  • Provide sufficient learning and assessment opportunities to meet all requirements of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of adult education and active learning techniques and consider how they are applied to a union audience.
  • Design and develop learning programs and training sessions and practice the skills involved in delivering training sessions.
  • Carry out a training needs analysis for a group of union learners.
  • Develop strategies for dealing with behavior in the training room that adversely affect a safe learning environment.
  • Understand the VET system in Australia including competency based training and assessment, training packages and units of competency.
  • Examine one-to-one coaching / mentoring and work based learning.
  • Plan and implement assessment and participate in assessment validation.

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) requires completion of 14 units of competency.

Entry/Pre-requisites

Participants must be nominated by a Union to enrol in this Course. Additionally it is recommended that participants have:

  • Access to a workplace for completion of some assessment projects
  • Good literacy, communication, writing, computing and internet skills
  • Email and web access, a personal computer and telephone
  • Access to training resources and training environments
Study mode
Delivery is through a combination of face-to-face workshops and distance learning units conducted over three months. Participants are required to attend a five-day face-to-face workshop at the beginning of the course and a two-day workshop at the end. Participants also complete 5 self-paced distance Learner Guides.

Duration
7 days (5 days plus 2 days). Delivery of the Blended course is over three months. Participants should aim to complete all the learning activities and assessment projects within 12 months. If Participants need more time to complete assessment projects, they may request an extension in writing. To ensure currency of learning, participants will have a maximum of 2 years from the date of enrolment to complete their qualification. After 2 years, if participants wish to complete outstanding work, they must re-enrol and pay for the course again.

Assessment projects
Participants are assessed via a series of assessment projects. These projects have been designed to collect evidence of your skills, knowledge and abilities relating to the topics covered in Certificate IV in TAA.
You need to successfully complete all assessment projects to complete the requirements for the full qualification.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credit transfer
Participants with previous training and/or experience may apply for RPL. Click here for more information and to obtain an RPL application.

Participants who have completed courses with equivalent / matching learning outcomes, will be granted credit transfer.

Where the Certificate IV can take you
At the completion of Certificate IV in TAA, the types of jobs and/or roles participants will be qualified to take up include Trainer or Assessor.

Other pathways
Participants successfully completing all 14 units are issued the Qualification. If a participant does not complete all units, a Statement of Attainment is issued detailing the units completed. Participants who gain the Certificate IV in TAA qualification may go on to study the Diploma of Training and Assessment Systems.
