The Public Service Association of South Australia (PSA), together with the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU), is the principal union with coverage of over 50,000 South Australian public sector employees.

The PSA is entering a new phase of leadership with a clear objective: to re-establish itself as one of the most effective, visible and powerful unions in South Australia – winning for members, shaping public debate and the future of the public sector.

About the role:
As Senior Communications and Campaigns Officer, you will lead the strategy, messaging and media that shapes how the PSA is seen, heard and understood.

You’ll turn complex industrial and political issues into clear, compelling campaigns that mobilise members, influence public debate, and deliver real outcomes.

This is not a behind-the-scenes comms role—you’ll work closely with senior leadership, set the narrative, and help drive campaigns that make a tangible difference to thousands of workers’ lives by:

  • Leading communications and campaign strategy aligned to organisational priorities
  • Developing messaging that drives engagement, activism and growth
  • Managing media relations, including releases, briefings and journalist engagement
  • Supporting leadership with high-level communications and positioning
  • Translating complex issues into clear, persuasive narratives
  • Working with organisers to turn workplace issues into impactful campaigns

About you:

  • Proven experience in senior communications, campaigns, or media roles
  • Ability to lead communications, media, and campaign strategies aligned with organisational priorities
  • Understanding of the political landscape – a strong strategic thinker with campaign development capability
  • Results driven with experience in leading high performing teams
  • Provide high-level media support including releases, messaging, interviews, and journalist liaison
  • Excellent writing, editing, and messaging skills across multiple formats
  • Experience managing media relationships and public messaging
  • Ability to translate complex issues into clear, persuasive communication
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Current SA drivers licence

Salary range: $108,109 – $129,568 per year + Superannuation
