Liam O’Brien elected ACTU Assistant Secretary

A special meeting of the ACTU executive has unanimously elected Liam O’Brien to the position of Assistant Secretary, replacing the outgoing Michael Borowick.

Liam was previously the National Vice-President and Victorian Assistant Secretary of the Australian Workers Union.

He started with the AWU as an organiser in 2003, progressing to lead organiser for the Victorian branch before being elected to senior positions within the union at a state and national level.

He was previously an alternate director for Australian Super, as well as a member of the fund’s audit compliance and risk management committee, and is currently a director of Prime Super.

ACTU Secretary Sally McManus congratulated Liam on his election to the role on behalf of the Australian union movement.
