Growth in job vacancies slowed over the last quarter to 1.7% according to new stats released today by the ABS – meaning Australian workers will find it harder than ever to find secure work.
Good, secure jobs are harder to find under the Morrison Government, with half of all new jobs created in the September quarter of 2018 being second jobs, according to earlier ABS data.
Growth in vacancies has dropped dramatically from 5.5% in November 2017.
Quotes attributable to ACTU President Michele O’Neil:
“Working people need more secure jobs and better pay. This data shows that jobs are harder to find than ever, and that the trend is towards even fewer jobs.
“We are seeing the emergence of a working poor in Australia – people who are working full time, sometimes significantly more than full-time, but still can’t make ends meet. It’s not the country we want to be.
“The insecure work crisis has become a national disaster under the Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison Government. The Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison Government has destroyed job security and wage growth for Australian workers.
“We need to change the rules so that there are more good secure jobs for Australian workers. No one in Australia should be forced to work multiple jobs just to support themselves and their families.”
