INDUSTRIAL OFFICER (IO) (fixed-term contract) - National Tertiary Education Union (NSW)

The NTEU (NSW) is seeking to employ an Industrial Officer at its NSW Division Office in Surry Hills.  The position is offered as a fixed-term contract position, at full-time, concluding on 3 October 2024.  The position, whilst based in Sydney, does require travel to regional universities in NSW. 

The NTEU is a federally registered union with coverage of academic and general staff in higher education. The NTEU (NSW) is responsible for workers in all NSW universities and their associated student organisations, research institutes and companies.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Negotiating local enterprise collective agreements; advocacy before industrial tribunals; negotiating with higher education managements on personal cases and disputes; recruitment; providing industrial advice and co-ordinating campaigns.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent; demonstrated negotiating, advocacy and campaign skills; commitment to union principles.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:

Knowledge of the higher education industry; experience in the trade union movement; demonstrated commitment to and understanding of principles of organising and evidence of experience in their application; basic word processing; electronic communication skills and driver’s licence.

SALARY:

Salary range is as per NTEU National Staff Agreement Level 6/7 ($101,170 – $126,754 per annum, plus 17% superannuation).
