The Transport Workers’ Union of Australia (TWU) is one of Australia’s leading campaigning trade unions, holding some of the biggest companies in the world to account over their treatment of workers, such as Qantas, Amazon and the supermarket giants.

With a hugely ambitious and exciting work program ahead and with a growing membership, we are looking to expand our branch’s team and increase our capacity to fight industry changing campaigns. We are looking for lead-organisers, organisers, campaigners and industrial officers to join our expanding team working out of Kewdale, WA.

Capitalising on recent landmark wins, the coming years will see us step up our efforts even further to take on deadly supply chains and reform our transport sectors, whether that be gig transport, aviation or trucking. We are looking for union officials that are creative, hard-working and strategic to join our dynamic team. We know we must keep disrupting the status quo to keep bringing about real reform for transport workers to ensure they have a powerful voice.

The TWU is union staff with the in the following areas to join the team:

  • Lead Organiser
  • Organiser/Campaigner/ Educator
  • Industrial Officer
  • Trainee Organiser

THE ROLES:

  • Support the development, coordination and execution of campaign plans.
  • Assist in the implementation of growth strategies.
  • Support the training, development, educating and mentoring of delegates.
  • Coordinate action and assist stakeholder activity and outreach.
  • Assist with lobbying and political outreach.
  • Assist with industry and sector bargaining to build and consolidate power.
  • Work with the communications team to develop worker communications and media opportunities.
  • Liaise with staff in other departments of the union to achieve success for the campaign.
  • Build and manage relationships with staff.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Branch Secretary.

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE ROLES:

  • A proven track record as a lead delegate, union organiser or campaigner or some experience in training, developing or mentoring officials or delegates.
  • A willingness to understand and implement union growth and sector consolidation strategies.
  • Experience in bargaining is desired but not essential.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communications skills, including demonstrated ability to write reports and draft internal and external communications.
  • Good IT communications skills, including experience with Excel and digital communications.
  • An interest in learning how to lead other team members.
  • A commitment to labour values.

The role will be based in our Branch’s office in Kewdale, with some interstate travel.

A competitive salary is on offer to the successful candidate.  The position is full time but willing to discuss part time options.
