National Industrial Officer

The Timber, Furnishing and Textiles Union (TFTU), formerly the Manufacturing Division of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union, is seeking a highly motivated National Industrial Officer with strong industrial relations experience to join the union’s national industrial team, based in Carlton, Melbourne.

This role provides high-level industrial and legal advice and advocacy, supports organising and bargaining campaigns, and carries responsibility for the preparation and conduct of industrial prosecutions and litigation across multiple jurisdictions.

For a suitably experienced candidate – with a strong commitment to the trade union movement – this role provides the opportunity to progress into a senior leadership position within the union’s national industrial team.

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA

  • A degree in law or other relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • An unrestricted current Australian practising certificate, with a minimum of 4–5 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Demonstrated experience or strong working knowledge of labour law and industrial relations.
  • Proven ability to prepare and articulate positions in tribunals, courts, mediations or formal industrial forums, including prosecution matters.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and flexibly, both independently and as part of a team.
