This is a rare opportunity to play a meaningful role in improving the lives of workers.

The CFMEU Manufacturing Division is seeking a committed and experienced Skills & Vocational Training Officer to join our team in Carlton, Melbourne.  This is a full time, fixed-term (18 months) role with possibility of extension.

In this role, you will work directly within the union and the wider industry to increase the skills and vocational training environment for workers across the timber-based sectors — improving job security, supporting quality employment, and contributing to stronger, safer workplaces.

You will work with industry stakeholders, training providers, and union members to develop and deliver practical solutions that ensure workers have access to high-quality vocational education, clear career pathways, and the tools they need to succeed in a changing economy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify current and emerging skills needs across timber-based industries
  • Engage with government, industry and training bodies to advocate for quality training pathways
  • Represent the union in key forums and advisory committees at state and national levels
  • Develop and lead projects that directly support workers’ access to training and career development
  • Ensure vocational training supports secure, meaningful, and unionised jobs

About You:

  • Knowledge of the VET, training and/or education sectors
  • Understanding of industrial awards and career progression pathways
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and project delivery
  • A commitment to trade union values and improving outcomes for working people

Additional Information:

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in training, workforce development, or education are highly desirable
  • Full and unrestricted right to work in Australia for the project period
  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications
