Join us and help build Australia’s newest union!

Our union is looking to hire an organiser who can recruit, represent members and help them act together to improve their workplaces and industries. This role would suit a self-starter who is keen to be in workplaces helping members make change. This role is based out of our Sydney Office however it also includes some regional responsibilities requiring travel (there is some flexibility about when that travel happens).

Training can be provided to help the right candidate grow into the role. That means we welcome applications from workplace delegates, Union Summer alumni, people studying industrial relations (or related majors) and newer union officials.

The most important things are that you really like helping union members win, you find it interesting to learn new things and you are a good problem-solver.

About Our Union

The TFTU is Australia’s newest union, formed from a 92% yes vote when members were asked if they wanted a specialist union, focussed on their industries. The district this role works in is diverse, representative, and growing. Our organisers work across all our coverage areas which includes furnishing, timber, textiles and paper products.

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • A commitment to the principles of trade unionism, social justice, and equality.
  • Experience problem-solving to resolve issues.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency using computers.
  • A current full driver’s licence.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Right of Entry permit.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.

Desirable

  • Ability to speak a community language.

The successful applicant will be offered an attractive remuneration package, including the necessary tools of the trade.
