UWU: Senior Member Rights Officer

The United Workers Union is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Senior Member Rights Officer in our Member Rights Team in Perth, on a permanent basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide industrial advice over the phone to members on a range of matters relating to their employment
  • Represent members and the union in collective and individual meetings
  • Centre the member’s experience, and ensure your work contributes to achieving the Objects of the Union
  • Assist the Lead to supervise, manage and allocate workload within the team;
  • Mentor and motivate staff to positively influence team culture and promote a positive, professional work environment;
  • Support members of the team to resolve individual and collective issues effectively, including by appropriately addressing any performance or conduct concerns;
  • Assist the Lead to maintain and develop industrial knowledge and standards within the team;
  • Ensure the work contributes to achieving the Objects of the Union and assists with retaining union members, membership growth, member leadership and action and winning industry power;
  • Ensure that the Union’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion are upheld and promoted;
  • Other duties at the direction of the Lead or other senior staff within Member Engagement.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

A Senior Member Support Officer demonstrates:

  • A passion and drive to improve workers’ lives and achieving the goals of the Union;
  • The ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks, including under time constraints;
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with union members and, as required, employer representatives;
  • A solid knowledge and understanding of the Australian industrial relations environment and the ability to apply that knowledge in supporting union members;
  • High level written and verbal communication skills;
  • An ability to participate in the unions political and social justice agenda.

Desirable Selection Criteria

The Member Rights Officer may also demonstrate:

  • The ability to interpret and analyse legal information such as legislation, awards or agreements;
  • Experience, including as a volunteer, in the union movement or other social justice movements or organisations.

To perform this job, you will also be required to have or obtain and maintain:

  • Valid Drivers Licence
  • Right of Entry Permits; and
  • Immunisation against COVID-19 or have a medical exemption

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience;
  • 16% superannuation;
  • 6 weeks annual leave plus 25% leave loading
