International Workers Memorial Day – 28 April

Please find below details of events around the country being held to mark International Workers Memorial Day in 2024.

Please note IWMD falls on a Sunday this year, but many of the events are being held on Monday 29 April.

Unions TAS event - Launceston

Sunday 28th April 2024

The 28th of April is International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD). This is a global day to remember those who were killed or seriously injured at work.
Unions Tasmania will host our traditional morning service on the day to honour Tasmanian workers who didn’t make it home.
We invite all community members to join with us.
A short service will be conducted with a free barbecue breakfast to follow.

Monday 29th April 2024

Each year, unions globally mark International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD) to remember those workers who were killed or seriously injured at work.
The day is also important to draw community attention to the importance of workplace health and safety, which requires our constant vigilance.
Unions Tasmania invites you to join us in our Hobart office on the 29th of April to mark the day.

Monday 29th April 2024

Every year, Victorian Trades Hall Council hosts a memorial service to remember those Victorians who lost their lives at work.

Please join us on Monday 29 April for International Workers Memorial Day 2024 to commemorate the workers we’ve lost in the past year.

The ceremony will include a minute’s silence at 11am and an opportunity to lay wreaths.

The event will be live-streamed through the Victorian Trades Hall Council Facebook page, but all are encouraged to attend the ceremony at Argyle square in Carlton.

SA Unions event - Adelaide

Monday 29th April 2024

This year we’ll be holding a rally and silent vigil to commemorate our lost comrades on the steps of Parliament House at 9am on the 29th followed by the annual commemoration service at the Pilgrim Uniting Church at 10am.

Monday 29th April 2024

UnionsWA will host a commemorative service for International Workers’ Memorial Day, to be held at Solidarity Park, corner Parliament Place and Harvest Terrace, West Perth, on Monday 29 April, from 10am until 11:30am.

A non-denominational service will be held and those who wish to are welcome to lay a wreath at Memorial Wall.

International Workers Memorial Day is a day of mourning to remember and honour workers who have lost their lives on the job. Join us at 9am on the 29th of April at the National Workers Memorial in Kings Park. Our memorial service will be followed by a light breakfast.

Note: The service will go ahead if it is raining.

Monday 29th April 2024

This year’s International Day of Mourning Service will be held on Monday 29 April 2024 at 12:00 noon, Reflection Park, Little Pier Street, Darling Harbour.

International Day of Mourning is held annually to honour those who have lost their lives as a result of a workplace incident or as a result of contracting a workplace disease.

At the service the families, friends who have lost loved ones along with supporters and unionists will place their memory cards and flowers on the “Memory Lines” sculpture.

At the conclusion of the service, please join us for a light luncheon in the Trades Hall Atrium.
