Organising Works 2021/2022

You never know where Organising Works could take you!

Organising Works is the ATUI’s flagship organiser development program. Boasting alumni like Sally McManus, Organising Works is a program in which unionists gain the skills to organise, lead and grow.

Program Aims

Organising Works gives participants real hands-on training in each of the key components of organising. It trains them in the best of traditional practice, as well as introducing them to innovative, and modern methods of organising, helping them learn to:

  • Develop and implement an organising plan;

  • Empower and communicate with workers;

  • Promote union values, principles and policies;

  • Promote equality of opportunity and fair treatment of all workers;

  • Participate in the bargaining process;

  • Provide advice to union members;

  • Undertake negotiations; and

  • Organise for safer workplaces.

  • Formal, structured training conducted by ATUI, comprising 12 courses over 12 months.

  • On-the-job experience, guided by mentors, allowing participants to gain the skills, strategies and knowledge required to work effectively as a union organiser.

Interviews will be held in each state between 15th – 17th June 2021. All participants are required to attend.

All participating unions agree to the OrgWorks Memorandum of Understanding:

  1. Provide a supportive environment in which the participant can focus on organising.

  2. Provide a mentor who has adequate time to be actively involved in on-the-job training and supervision.

  3. Develop an organising plan for the participant to identify priority organising targets.

Please ensure relevant approval has been granted by your union in accordance with its rules and elected official. The cost of the course is $4995.00 (GST inclusive).

This course is delivered with the support of The Union Education Foundation (TUEF) and The Australian Government Productivity Education and Training (PET) Fund.
