It is an exciting time for our union. Together we are building a brand new union that takes the best from our history whilst forging a new path. We are looking for an experienced organiser who enjoys recruiting, understands how to help members stick together and win on issues in their workplace and can support delegates as a part of our comprehensive delegate development program. This role would suit someone who can work independently in line with an agreed plan.

This role is based out of our Sydney city office however will also have some regional responsibilities requiring travel (there is some flexibility about when that travel happens outside of EA negotiation times).

About Our Union

The TFTU is Australia’s newest union. The district this role works in is diverse, representative, and growing. Our organisers work across all our coverage areas which includes Furniture, timber, textiles, clothing and footwear and pulp and paper products. 

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Experience as a union organiser or senior delegate.
  • Track record of consistently recruiting and retaining members leading to growth.
  • Experience problem-solving, advocating and negotiating to resolve issues.
  • Skills in identifying, developing, and coaching workplace leaders.
  • Experience implementing a union-wide plan in your “patch”.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency using computers.
  • Must be able to travel for work, including interstate and/or overnight stays away from home. Reasonable adjustments will be made for individuals with disabilities in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Ability to regularly attend work sites to meet with members and employers. As a large portion of the Division’s membership performs shift work, the successful candidate will from time to time be required to work outside of usual business hours to perform their regular duties. Reasonable adjustments will be made for individuals with caring responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • A current full driver’s licence.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Right of Entry permit.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.

Desirable

  • Ability to speak a community language.
  • Experience with enterprise agreement negotiations.
  • Experience with industry-wide campaigning.

The successful applicant will be offered an attractive remuneration package, including pay commensurate to skills and experience, 15% superannuation, a car as a “tool of the trade” and 13 additional leave days.
