The Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA) has represented Qantas Group pilots since 1981. As both a union and professional body, we are the unified voice of more than 2,500 pilots across Australia and globally.

We advocate for our members, champion aviation safety, and foster a strong, connected professional community.

We are seeking an experienced Membership Recruiter/Union Organiser to grow AIPA’s membership by developing and implementing a Member Recruit Strategy including identifying prospective members and communicating the value of AIPA membership.

This newly created part time position places a strong emphasis on building meaningful relationships, leading targeted recruitment initiatives and delivering a positive, well informed onboarding experience for new members, while also offering the opportunity to shape and make the role your own.

Key Responsibilities

  • Map the workplace for each employer from the Qantas Group.
  • Identify and engage in activities which will deliver membership growth and increase AIPA Union density in each of the targeted employers. Conduct issues based recruitment campaigns in each targeted employer. Problem solve barriers to increased union membership and increased union density. Maintain a recruitment pipeline, track leads and follow up with prospects to ensure successful conversions.
  • Represent AIPA at induction training, orientations or information sessions.
  • Build positive relationships with prospective members, partners and stakeholders to increase union membership and density
  • Support the planning and delivery of recruitment focused events, presentations and initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of activities, leads and new members.
  • Prepare regular reports on recruitment outcomes, trends and areas for improvement.
  • Use CRM or membership management systems to track progress and maintain data integrity.
  • Work closely with the membership team and other departments within AIPA.
  • Collaborate on marketing materials and messaging that promote membership value. 

About You

  • Experience in union (or other membership) recruitment.
  • Ability to plan and then execute on the plans to deliver increased union membership and density.
  • Demonstrates strong skills in clearly articulating and persuasively communicating value propositions to convert prospects and drive positive outcomes.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proactive problem solving mindset, focused on identifying solutions
  • Adaptability and flexibility, with the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • Comfortable presenting to groups.
  • Highly organised, with strong follow up and data tracking skills.
  • Proficiency with digital tools, CRM systems and communication platforms.
  • Self-motivated and the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
