Accounts Officer / Entry Level Accountant

Timber, Furnishing & Textiles Union

The Timber, Furnishing & Textiles Union is seeking an Accounts Officer / Entry Level Accountant to support the day-to-day finance work of the union.

This role will suit someone with accounting experience who wants to build broader finance skills. The position supports core finance functions including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payment preparation, month-end support and debtor administration.

Key responsibilities
• Process accounts payable and receivable
• Prepare weekly payment batches for senior review and approval
• Reconciling all bank accounts in Xero on a daily basis
• Undertake credit card processing and reconciliations
• Complete general ledger reconciliations
• Reconcile accounts accurately and allocate costs to the correct cost centre
• Assist with monthly accruals and month-end reconciliation
• Maintain debtor schedules and agreements
• Undertake other finance and administrative duties as required

Key selection criteria
• Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field. Progress toward CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand will be viewed favourably
• Experience in an accounting, finance or bookkeeping role, including exposure to accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, general ledger processes and basic financial reporting
• Experience using Xero and strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accuracy and handle confidential and sensitive financial information appropriately
• Demonstrated ability to follow organisational policies, procedures and privacy requirements, and to exercise sound judgement and discretion when dealing with sensitive information
• Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities

About the role
The successful applicant will work as part of our small finance team to ensure accurate and timely processing of core accounting functions. The role requires a reliable and organised person who can work carefully with financial information and contribute to an efficient finance operation.
