Admin Support Officer

Position Purpose

Support Officers are allocated by the General Secretary to particular areas of work within the Association and are responsible to the General Secretary, through the Manager, for the performance of a wide range of administrative and secretarial activities for the efficient functioning of the Teams, to facilitate the effective operation of the Association.

When required, a Support Officer may be reallocated from one Team to another as requested by the General Secretary.

Job Functions

  • Assisting the relevant Manager with day to day administrative operations of the team
  • Diary Management
  • Maintenance of membership records, filing, photocopying, ordering of stationery and other office supplies
  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence, including the drafting and preparation of straightforward and more complex correspondence
  • Document/file preparation and management
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments or teleconferences for Industrial Staff
  • Notification to members and staff of conferences, hearings, etc
  • Web searches, database manipulation and interrogation
  • Assistance with routine research, collection and preparation of case histories, materials and exhibits
  • Development and efficient maintenance of administration and record systems for the work of the Team
  • Help support membership delegate structures and committees
  • Assistance with the collation of reports
  • Accurately input information into Unison
  • Other related duties as directed

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Commitment to union principles
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions, and exercise initiative and independent judgement
  • Knowledge of the systems and processes of the State and Federal Industrial Relations systems
  • Ability to undertake basic research
  • Intermediate to advanced PC skills, in particular Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise, plan and manage competing demands
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to work co-operatively with the Senior Support Officer and other admin staff as required, to ensure the effective running of the team

  • The salary $75,728-87,213 per annum
