ASU SA & NT: Experienced Industrial Officer (6 month (flexible position)

The Australian Services Union (ASU) is one of the largest unions in Australia and represents workers in local government, energy, disability, community services, finance, call centres, airlines, legal and private sector administration.

An Industrial Officer position is available with the SA + NT Branch of the Union. This is a 6-month (flexible) position primarily covering staff leave, based in Adelaide. Consideration will be given to candidates who require part time hours and working from home arrangements.

The successful applicant will be an experienced industrial official / lawyer who can confidently –

• assist individual members and small groups of members with a range of industrial matters
• develop the ASU’s membership through their involvement in collectively resolving industrial issues
• prepare and run matters in the South Australian Employment Tribunal, Fair Work Commission, and other tribunals
• facilitate industrial and technical research for workplace, industry and cross union campaigns.

Applicants will need to demonstrate –

• commitment to the Union movement
• experience and/or ability to research, prepare and run industrial cases before industrial tribunals and courts
• knowledge of current industrial relations systems and processes
• strong negotiation skills
• understanding of organising and campaign theory and techniques
• advocacy skills
• excellent communication skills
• ability to work to deadlines and manage competing demands on your time
• strong computer skills.
