The Australian Services Union (ASU) is one of the largest unions in Australia and represents workers in local government, energy, disability, community services, finance, call centres, airlines, legal and private sector administration.

If you a dynamic, conscientious, team player with a background in administration, call centre and / or customer service experience then we want to hear from you! We are creating a brand new member engagement team, with multiple Member Engagement Officer positions available (both full time and part time). The member engagement team will be the first point of contact for union members, and team members will share the duties listed below under a roster structure.

The successful applicants will be able to –

• communicate confidently and efficiently with union staff, members and stakeholders
• undertake persuasive / organising conversations
• conduct outbound member contact, primarily over the telephone
• respond to inbound member and non-member queries
• provide immediate industrial triage and basic advice to members and non-members
• ensure members feel supported while setting realistic expectations
• escalate matters to the Industrial team when needed
• conduct general office administrative duties including database management
• assist with union organising and campaigns

We are looking for applicants who –

• support the union’s values and strategies
• enjoy working as part of a small team
• maintain accurate records in a timely manner
• communicate with colleagues, members and potential members in a professional, friendly manner
• remain composed when helping members who may be in a distressed or agitated state
• handle objections, grievances and sensitive information with maturity and discretion
• have strong computer skills
