It is an exciting time for our union. Together we are building a brand new union that takes the best from our history whilst forging a new path. We are looking for an organiser who is keen to recruit new members, help existing members problem solve to fix issues at work together and support delegates to lead at work. This role would suit a delegate who is keen to step into an organising role or somebody with similar experience.
This role is based out of our Sydney city office however will also have some regional responsibilities requiring travel (there is some flexibility about when that travel happens outside of EA negotiation times). This means that a driver’s license is critical to the role.
About Our Union
The TFTU is Australia’s newest union. The district this role works in is diverse, representative, and growing. Our organisers work across all our coverage areas which includes furniture, timber products, and all types of textiles.
Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Commitment to growing the union movement.
- Experience problem-solving, advocating and negotiating to resolve issues.
- Commitment to identifying, developing, and coaching workplace leaders.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency using computers.
- Must be able to travel for work, including interstate and/or overnight stays away from home. Reasonable adjustments will be made for individuals with disabilities in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Ability to regularly attend work sites to meet with members and employers. As a large portion of the Division’s membership performs shift work, the successful candidate will from time to time be required to work outside of usual business hours to perform their regular duties. Reasonable adjustments will be made for individuals with caring responsibilities in accordance with relevant legislation.
- A current full driver’s licence.
- Eligibility to obtain a Right of Entry permit.
- Eligibility to work in Australia.
Desirable
- Experience as a union organiser or delegate.
- Ability to speak a community language.
- Experience with enterprise agreement negotiations.
The successful applicant will be offered an attractive remuneration package, including pay commensurate to skills and experience, 15% superannuation, a car as a “tool of the trade” and 13 additional leave days.
