About the role:
The HSU is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead our Finance Division and play a key role in shaping the organisation’s financial strategy, governance and performance.
Reporting to senior leadership, this role will provide trusted financial advice, strengthen financial capability across the organisation and ensure robust financial management to support our continued growth and impact.

This is a Permanent full-time position based in our Sydney CBD Head Office. This is an in office based role.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the delivery of accurate, timely financial reporting to support organisational oversight, compliance and decision-making.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, providing clear insights into performance, risks and opportunities.
- Maintain strong financial governance, including effective internal controls, risk management and compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations.
- Provide trusted financial advice to senior leaders, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Lead and develop a high-performing Finance team, fostering accountability, capability development and a collaborative culture.
- Ensure finance systems and processes are efficient, scalable and continuously improved to support organisational needs.
About You:
You are an experienced and commercially minded finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with sound judgement and a strategic mindset. You are confident partnering with senior stakeholders and influencing decision-making, while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, governance and continuous improvement.
You will bring:
- CA/CPA qualified.
- Demonstrated experience in a Finance Manager or senior accounting role, with end-to-end responsibility for financial operations, reporting and compliance
- Proven ability to lead and develop staff, fostering accountability, performance and continuous improvement
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, with the ability to translate insights into practical business outcomes
- Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, taxation (including GST and FBT) and regulatory requirements
- Experience working with financial systems and tools, with a focus on data integrity, controls and efficiency
- The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Highly regarded:
- Experience in a union, not-for-profit, membership-based or similarly regulated environment
- Experience supporting executive and/or board-level reporting and decision-making
- Exposure to property, asset management or multi-entity structures.
Location: Sydney CBD
Remuneration:
- $140,000 to $160,000 + 12% (12.5% for females) Employee Superannuation Contributions, dependent on relevant skills and experience.
