IT Support & Systems Officer - Australian Council of Trade Unions

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is seeking an IT Support & Systems Officer to provide high‑quality, responsive IT support to ACTU staff and contribute to the effective operation of our core technology systems.

This is a hands‑on, delivery‑focused role, supporting staff day‑to‑day while helping ensure ACTU systems are accessible, secure and fit for purpose. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation in a values‑driven environment committed to supporting workers and trade unions.

About the role

Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Support & Systems Officer provides first and second‑level IT support across the organisation and assists with systems and device management under direction.

The role requires a strong customer‑service mindset, solid technical fundamentals, and the ability to communicate clearly with users of varying technical confidence.

Key responsibilities include

  • Provide first and second‑level IT support to ACTU staff, resolving hardware, software and connectivity issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Log, prioritise and resolve support requests using the service desk system, keeping users informed and issues well documented.
  • Provide onsite and in‑person support, including for meetings, hybrid events, conference room AV systems and visiting presenters.
  • Support staff onboarding and offboarding processes, including system access, account setup and equipment allocation.
  • Assist with administration of core IT systems under direction, escalating complex or higher‑risk issues as required.
  • Support device management activities, including configuration, updates, patching, troubleshooting and lifecycle tasks.
  • Support Windows, macOS and iOS devices, peripherals and basic networking issues.
  • Perform routine system and device checks and liaise with external providers where appropriate.
  • Support the application of ACTU IT security policies and procedures and escalate potential security incidents.
  • Promote safe, secure and responsible use of ACTU systems and data.
  • Contribute to a positive, patient and solutions‑focused service culture.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required to support team and organisational objectives.

About you

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience providing IT support in an organisational or service desk environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Windows‑based systems.
  • Experience supporting end‑user devices, peripherals and basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and calmly to non‑technical users.
  • A collaborative and service‑oriented approach to work.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience supporting macOS and iOS devices.
  • Experience with meeting room or conference AV systems.
  • Exposure to Entra ID and/or Intune environments.
  • Relevant IT qualifications or technical training.

The ACTU offers a competitive salary range of $100,650 to $111,708 depending on skills and experience, along with:
