About the Role

We are seeking a National Finance Officer to join our National Office Finance Team in Granville.

Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer, this role plays a key part in supporting the financial management, governance and operational effectiveness of the Union.

The National Finance Officer will contribute to financial reporting, budgeting, taxation compliance and the day-to-day coordination of finance operations across the organisation.

The role will also assist in strengthening financial systems and governance processes while supporting financial coordination across AMWU branches.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist with preparation of monthly and annual financial reports
  • Support budgeting, financial planning and forecasting activities
  • Assist with taxation compliance including BAS and FBT
  • Support month-end and year-end financial close processes
  • Assist with financial reconciliations and financial analysis
  • Help coordinate day-to-day finance operations across the finance team
  • Support improvements to financial systems and processes
  • Provide financial support to AMWU branches where required
  • Assist with financial audits and regulatory compliance 

About You 

You will be a motivated accounting professional with strong technical capability and the ability to work collaboratively in a small team.

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • CPA or CA qualification (or working towards)
  • Strong financial reporting and reconciliation experience
  • Understanding of BAS, FBT and taxation compliance
  • Advanced Excel and strong analytical capability
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics (Business Central)
  • Experience with Employment Hero payroll
  • Experience in a union, membership organisation or not-for-profit environment
