The United Workers Union is seeking a highly motivated individual to work in our personal injury firm, United Voice Legal located in Perth, Western Australia in a fulltime capacity, Monday to Friday.

The role of the Para Legal/Legal Secretary is to deliver exceptional day to day administration and legal support in our personal injury firm, United Voice Legal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties of this position are as follows:

  • Supporting two lawyers with the day-to-day conduct of workers compensation, district court and criminal injury compensation matters;
  • Talking to clients and stakeholders;
  • Being able to identify legal issues and disputes and bring them to the attention of the instructing solicitor;
  • Scheduling court appointments, hearings and other meetings;
  • Assistance in the preparation of workover and court applications;
  • Assistance in proof-reading and formatting of documents;
  • Filing of documents with the Courts and Tribunals;
  • Opening and closing of files, and case file management (electronic and hard-copy);
  • Providing assistance with administrative tasks associated with court and tribunal proceedings, including the preparation of briefs and document production;
  • Liaising with union members, solicitors and stakeholders;
  • Filepro experience preferable but not essential;
  • Able to learn or be familiar with a legal trust accounts and the process;
  • Producing reports and data-entry, as required;
  • Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with other teams within the Union;
  • Comply with policies and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure high quality and consistent work;
  • Ensure workflow processes are actioned in a timely and consistent manner;
  • Ensure that the Union’s values of equity, diversity and inclusion are upheld and promoted;
  • Uphold a strict level of confidentiality; and
  • Other duties as requested.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 

The key selection criteria for this position are:

  • A minimum of 12 months personal injury experience.
  • Have knowledge or be familiar with a legal trust account and the process;
  • Ability to identify legal issues and disputes and bring them to the attention of the instructing solicitor;
  • Advanced Microsoft skills in Office, Word and Excel;
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work well both in a team and autonomously and using initiative;
  • Deliver a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; and
  • A commitment to the United Workers Union’s values. 
DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE 

  • Prior experience in or around the Union Movement and / or legal workplaces;
  • Filepro experience preferable but not essential or other electronic file management systems;
  • Familiarity with filing of documents at WorkCover and District Court; 
REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience;
  • 16% superannuation; and
  • 4 weeks annual leave plus 25% leave loading.
