A retirement that never comes: COVID-19 workers will work until they drop if super rise delayed

As the Morrison government refuses to rule out scrapping the superannuation increase to 12% despite releasing the Retirement Income Review, a new report released by the ACTU today analyses the impact on retirement savings the delay in increasing super will have on workforces that have proven critical through the COVID-19 crisis.
Government refuses to commit to super increase

The Morrison Government has today continued its refusal to support the legislated increase in the superannuation guarantee to 12 per cent, dismissed the massive gender gap in super and offered home owners – a shrinking group of comparatively wealthy retirees – a false choice between their home and a secure retirement.

Un-amended JobMaker scheme will only create insecure work

The Morrison Government has rejected common sense safeguard amendments put forward by the ALP and the Greens and supported by Jacqui Lambie and Rex Patrick to the JobMaker hiring credit and instead ploughed ahead with a program which is likely to create a new wave of insecure work and risks displacing workers in existing jobs.

Morrison cuts JobSeeker to $51.21 per day

With 1.4 million people reliant on the JobSeeker payment for support the Morrison Government has announced that from January 1 the JobSeeker rate will be cut by $100 per fortnight leaving people on $51.20 per day.
