ACTU President, Sharan Burrow, today condemns the suicide bombing in Rishon Le Zion, near Tel Aviv, which killed 15 people.

‘This appalling murder of innocent people will inevitably exacerbate the hatred and violence which is poisoning the lives of Palestinians and Israelis’, said Ms. Burrow.

Ms. Burrow repeated last month’s call by the ACTU’s International Committee on the Palestinians to commit themselves to do everything possible to prevent suicide bombers, together with an immediate withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from Palestinian territory.

The ACTU restated its belief that:

‘Terrorism, involving attacks on innocent civilians and the use of highly destructive modern weapons against refugee camps, must both stop. The ACTU calls on both the Israelis and Palestinians to commit themselves to:

(i) an immediate withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from Palestinian territory;

(ii) do everything possible to prevent further suicide bombers.’
