ACTU Statement On Simon Crean’s Resignation

Media Release - November 28, 2003

The ACTU today praised outgoing Federal ALP leader Simon Crean for his contribution and commitment to the best interests of the Australian people and the Labor Party.

“During his leadership, Simon’s integrity and decency have always been on display, even in the most trying of circumstances,” said ACTU President Sharan Burrow.

“His policy work, especially in the areas of health and education, has created an important debate in the community about the choices confronting Australia and forced critical policy improvements by the Federal Government,” she said.

The ACTU will support the new leadership of the ALP and work closely with them on further policy development.
