The ALP has this morning announced that it will provide $660 million to help women who are experiencing family and domestic violence, by providing a much need boost to housing, legal assistance, court support and practical financial assistance.
In stark contrast to the Morrison Government’s proposal, which contains inadequate funding, programs and leave, the ALP package provides women experiencing violence practical support and independence.
The funding announced today comes in addition to an ALP commitment to introduce ten day paid family and domestic violence leave. This will go a long way to ensuring women experiencing domestic and family violence will not have to chose between their job, financial security and safety for themselves and their children.
The ACTU welcomes the ALP’s commitment to properly fund frontline services which will help people experiencing family and domestic violence. There should be no financial barriers to escaping violence.
