Ansett Staff Urged To Get Proxies In

Media Release - January 23, 2002

Ansett employees have less than a week to lodge proxy forms to vote at next Tuesday’s crucial Creditors’ meeting on the airline’s future.

The ACTU says proxy forms available from Ansett unions should be lodged as soon as possible to ensure all 16,000 former and ongoing employees can have their votes counted.

The Creditor’s meeting – expected to be the largest in Australian corporate history – will vote on the Administrator’s decision to sell Ansett to the Tesna consortium of Lindsay Fox and Solomon Lew from February 1.

Employees wanting to attend the meeting on January 29 and vote in person should bring with them their bar-coded notice of meeting from the Ansett Administrators and register between 12 midday and 2pm. The meeting at Vodafone Arena, Melbourne Park, will begin at 3pm.

ACTU Secretary Greg Combet said the Tesna sale offered the best opportunity of securing a return to all creditors, including frequent-flyer point holders and Golden Wing Club members.

“Employees not able to attend the meeting need to lodge proxy forms with unions as soon as possible to ensure their vote can count,” Mr Combet said.

Further information on lodging proxies is available from Ansett unions or the ACTU toll-free number, phone: 1300 365 205
