More secure jobs are being created
Media Release - November 13, 2025
Today’s Labour force figures show an overall improvement in the labour market, with the unemployment rate dropping to 4.3%.
The rate of under-employment also fell to 5.7% in October.
ABS monthly labour force figures released today show there was a solid increase in full-time work in October, with around 55,000 full-time jobs added in the month.
The trend reflects a growing number of working Australians moving from casual and part-time work into full-time secure employment. The casual share of employment fell to its lowest level in August 2025, the lowest it has been since the early 1990s.
Full-time job increases were evenly spread between men and women – with around 26,000 full time jobs for men and around 29,000 jobs for women added to the labour force.
The participation rate was steady at 67%, a little down from the record high earlier this year of 67.2%.
Quotes attributable to ACTU President, Michele O’Neil:
“Today’s figures show the labour market continues to generate secure, full-time work. Thousands of workers are finding secure jobs and casual employment is declining as a share of the workforce.
“Closing loopholes in labour hire laws and changing the definition of casual workers are working and we are finally getting away from the widespread insecure work that was endemic under previous Coalition governments.
“This is good for working people who now have greater job security.”
