Unions have welcomed the eight new appointments to the Fair Work Commission announced today.
ACTU Secretary Dave Oliver said the appointments would bring balance and experience to the commission.
He said unions welcomed the appointment of former ACTU Secretary Jeff Lawrence as a Deputy President of the commission.
Mr Lawrence will bring long experience, wide knowledge and an understanding of working people to his new role, Mr Oliver said.
“Mr Lawrence has spent his entire career in the field of industrial relations and has universal respect from unions and employers for his integrity and decency,” Mr Oliver said.
“He will bring an impartial and dedicated approach to the role, and is eminently qualified to serve on the workplace tribunal.
“His appointment is a recognition of these qualities, and he will conduct himself in his new role with distinction.”
Mr Oliver said the other appointments announced today brought a blend of different expertise to the commission.
