Statement from ACTU President Ged Kearney on Michael Williamson fraud charges

Media Release - October 15, 2013

Former Health Services Union official Michael Williamson should face the full force of the law after admitting to fraud involving union members’ money.

The offences to which Mr Williamson has admitted are very serious and are properly being dealt with by the criminal law.

There is no place in our movement for people who have misappropriated members’ funds.

Mr Williamson has breached the trust of his members and broken the law, he deserves to face the consequences.

Now that Mr Williamson’s activities have been exposed, we’re confident they will be dealt with appropriately in the courts.
