Fair Work Commission Degree-Qualified Professional Classification Review (AM2025/19)

Policies, Publications & Submissions - August 22, 2025

Submission by the Australian Council of Trade Unions

Summary

The ACTU welcomes the Fair Work Commission’s decision to commence proceedings to consider work value variations to classifications in modern awards that require, as a minimum, an undergraduate university degree (professional classifications) and have pay rates that are not aligned with the C1(a) Benchmark rate.

The Commission’s decision to commence the proceedings is an important and significant response to the statutory imperative for the elimination of gender-based undervaluation and the obligation to establish and maintain a safety net of fair minimum wages.
